The Right Just Got Its October Surprise, and It’s Joe Biden

There’s no one as crucial and effective to the MAGA movement as…Joe Biden.

It seems like, ever since Kamala Harris announced her campaign for president, Joe Biden has been forgetting exactly which side of the political aisle he’s supposed to be. (This is entirely possible, for the record, and would probably be the consensus if we were to put the following scenarios through the Occam’s Razor test. For those who don’t know of this concept, Occam’s Razor says that, in a situation where two explanations are feasible, the simpler one is generally the correct one. However, I’m naturally a skeptical person and a little more open-minded to hearing out what the left calls “conspiracy theories,” so all I ask is that you hear me out here as well.) On September 11, 2024, during an event to commemorate the tragic events that had happened 23 years ago to the date, Biden donned an event-goers red “Trump 2024” hat. It’s not AI; Biden was joking around with the Trump-supporter and, at the request of the audience, Biden put the man’s hat on top of his own and flashed a big grin at the camera. The Trump team immediately capitalized on this opportunity and took to 𝕏 to thank Joe Biden for his support, while Andrew Bates (Biden’s deputy press secretary) and the rest of the White House tried to do damage control for the president’s actions, claiming that it was a show of “bipartisan unity.”

The strange attempts to seemingly undermine or hurt the Harris campaign at the hands of the sitting president didn’t end there. Recently, while Kamala was at a big campaign event, hoping to garner media attention, Biden held a presidential press conference…at exactly the same time. Let’s not forget that Harris and Biden are both currently part of the governing administration; something like this would typically be coordinated much better. But alas, to Harris’ dismay, Biden was the one who attracted the media attention and deflated the would-be effects of her campaign event.

This past Sunday, October 27, Axios (a liberal media publication with insider ties to people in the Biden administration and the Democrat Party) reported that the Harris campaign is ignoring Biden’s request to campaign with the 2024 candidate. “We’ll get back to you” is the response Biden has gotten from them, according to three different people familiar with the situation. According to Axios, the Harris campaign sees Biden as both a “political liability” and, according to another person familiar with the situation, “a reminder of the last four years, not the new way forward.” (You can read the entire report where it’s linked above.) The campaign seems to be doing everything they can to distance themselves from Kamala’s boss.

And then we have what happened last night. As Kamala Harris held a rally at the Ellipse, the park in Washington, D.C., where Trump gave his January 6, 2021, speech, Biden decided to do a CNN interview and throw a wrench in the media cycle. Harris’ campaign had been touting this event as having drawn 75,000 supporters to it to see her speak. The legacy media headlines were looking positive for the Harris team — until Joe Biden opened his mouth in his own “basket of deplorables” moment. You remember that moment, of course; it was in September 2016 when Hillary Clinton, the (very) failed Democrat presidential nominee labelled millions of Trump-supporting Americans as “a basket of deplorables,” adding that they are “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic — you name it.” Few sound-bytes in politics are remembered for over 8 years, but this was a jab that the right never forgot, and it likely contributed to the downfall of Clinton’s campaign.

As the CNN interview with Biden progressed, the topic of a comedian’s joke at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally this past Sunday calling Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” arose, and Biden commented this on it: “And just the other day, a speaker at his [Trump’s] rally called Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of garbage.’ Well, let me tell you something. I don’t — I — I don’t know the Puerto Rican that — that I know — or a Puerto Rico, where I’m fr — in my home state of Delaware, they’re good, decent, honourable people. The only garbage see floating out there is his supporters. His – his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American. It’s totally contrary to everything we’ve done, everything we’ve been” (emphasis added).

These comments immediately stole all the media attention away from Harris as millions of Trump-supporters reflected on the fact that their president had just called them all “garbage.” (Of course, the White House again tried to do damage control for this and edited the official audio transcript to put “supporters” in the possessive tense as “supporter’s,” completely altering what Biden was actually saying.) The damage had been done though, and the Harris campaign is still trying to recover. Even CNN is saying Biden’s comments will potentially be a net positive for the Trump campaign. (A good way for Harris to recover would be to condemn these comments, but she has refused to do so despite having talked to Biden after the comments were made; she told reporters this morning that the comments “didn’t come up.” It’s worth noting that this debacle comes on the heels of legacy media and even the Harris campaign itself comparing Trump to Hitler and Trump-supporters to Nazis. It’s been insult added to injury all week long.)

The scope of how much these comments will shake the political landscape is vast enough to consider Biden’s statements as this election’s “October surprise” (an event that happens just before an election that is perceived as a smoking gun against the opposing candidate). Generally, October surprises are in favour of the left. This year seems to be going a little differently. This year, the left gave us the October surprise.

Considering all the above, there are a couple of explanations as to why Biden seems to be intentionally sabotaging the Harris campaign: either he is so dementia-ridden and senile that he has no inhibitions to keep him from doing and saying these things — or he is, in fact, genuinely trying to sabotage Harris’ presidential run.

In fairness, why wouldn’t he be? He had been running his own campaign as the incumbent president, until his own party betrayed him and launched an internal coup to remove him from the ticket and place his own vice president in his stead. If he was bitter against the Democrats (as rumours attest that he is), he would have every right to be. It would certainly fit with what journalist and 𝕏 influencer Jack Posobiec reported on Saturday, October 26. According to a White House official, Biden told advisors that the election was “dead and buried,” called Kamala an “innate sucker,” and “too credulous from the starting line.” He also summarized the election race as being “classic hare and tortoise but the hare is also stupid, not just lazy.” Additionally, he said that Barrack Obama and everyone involved in the coup against him were “suckers” and “jackasses.” The same White House official said that Biden’s coherency and stability is seemingly very sharp whenever it comes to talking about Harris, as if “there’s a special button in that head of his for her.”

You can easily dismiss all this as faulty, third-hand reporting and dismiss Biden’s actions as those of an elderly, senile man past his prime who can’t even remember what he ate for dinner the night before. At the end of the day, you’ll make your own conclusions. But imagine if Biden did hold bitterness and contempt for the party that overthrew his current and future governance. Imagine if, in turn, he decided that nothing really mattered anymore, and so he realized the best way to get revenge would be to sink his party’s nominee by saying certain things to make her look bad, holding events at the same time she does, and even donning her opponent’s campaign merch. His political career is over anyway. What would he have to lose?

Biden cast his vote for president yesterday. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it was for Donald Trump.
